Critical Reflection Question 6

A conglomerate in media is a big corporation that is more widely known for producing specific types of media. They would have a bigger range of where they covered their information. An example of a big guy in print media would be The Wall Street journal. They produce media nationally and it goes all over the United States.


A little guy is a small business that is less known the farther you go from the main source or location. They have a smaller range of where they get their information from. An example of a little guy in print media would be The Sun Sentinel. They produce media locally and it goes all around the southern part of Florida.


A big guy produces their product by getting different information from across the country. They find the many different news and they pick out what they want to include in their main newspaper. Then, they release the newspaper back to the people with the various stories from across the country. A little guy produces their product by getting their information more locally. They are able to find stories that are closer to the audience. Then, they release the newspaper with the more relevant information back to the people.


A big guy is more well known than a little guy so they already have a reputation and partially rely on the people to spread the product and advocate for it. They deliver their product either by hand or by unrestricted access on the internet. A little guy promotes their product by having their name said on news channels and on television networks. They are also able to deliver their products by hand or by unrestricted access on the internet. In other words, you can either receive their products in the mail, on your doorstep, or you can look it up online with an account.


The advantages to being the big guy is that the product will be received by many people across the country, they have more financial resources to spend in making their product, and they are able to invest more time into more important stories. The disadvantage to being the big guy is that they are bigger targets for lawsuits because they have more money.

The advantages to being the little guy is that they might have faster and more relevant knowledge to what is happening in the local area and more local people would be willing to buy it because it is local and related to the person themselves. The disadvantage to being the little guy is that they have less money to spend on producing stories, they have a smaller fanbase to support them, and they are more likely to go bankrupt if they lose a big lawsuit.
