Define Mise-en-Scene

Mise-en-scene means "Setting the stage" or "Placing on stage". It refers to having the set or background depict the time, place, or what is happening in a shot. The five factors that make it up are set, props, actors, lighting, and composition. By combining the first four factors, you get the last factor. The last factor is how the other factors work together to communicate the scene.
