Wyclef Jean, who is one of the most prominent members of The Black Eyed Peas, provides the readers a very good analysis of how he success in the music industry from both a personal and professional perspective.

The overall tone of the entire article is informative. For example, Jean speaks about knowing the right pace in which to write and produce music as opposed to following timelines established by the music industry. He mentioned that he followed his own pace, which happened to be much different than what any of his producers had planned for him. So as a result, the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which he helped develop, was produced and was a widespread sellout and topped the charts for many weeks. Another example of him being informative is when he conveyed that genre is just a concept. He explained that he wrote a song that was called Maria Maria. Years ago, that song would have probably fell into a certain genre category. However, it turns out that his friend and famous musician, DJ Khaled, wanted to take Maria Maria and incorporate it into another song that would fall into a completely different genre. This shows that songs can cross genres and do not have to be held to industry-designed genres.

The article is using words to create an impact by telling the readers what Jean went through on his route to success. He is giving the readers his personal opinions and experiences that led him to life-changing moments. For example, he told the readers that one night he stayed fifteen minutes longer in order to practice a Jimi Hendrix solo, and as a result, he missed being on the block in the middle of a shooting. Another example would be how he told the audience that he wanted to go at his own pace while making his own songs. He felt that he should go at his own pace and as a result, the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was produced.

The article is using words to communicate ideas by providing facts and evidence of Jean’s past successes, experiences, and what he believes to be The Ten Commandments as a musician. He gave his personal opinions and used his past experiences to provide samples and evidence of how he believes The Ten Commandments shaped him as an artist and well known musician thereby sharing his recipe for success.
