Magazine cover exercise/practice

  • The visual elements ( figure, costume, color, pose, typography, Layout) - A woman is standing with hands on hip right in the center of the cover dressed in workout attire - All the words are placed around the woman and the colors that are popping out are red, and blue

  • Linguistic elements (the title, lexicon, use of ‘teasers’) - The title is Total Fitness and the magazine cover uses words like "metabolism", and "healthy" to appeal to the concept of fitness - The cover says things like "Boost your metabolism", "Have a healthy workout day", and "Home fitness tools you must own" to catch your attention and try to persuade the reader to look further for answers.

  • Lifestyle (the kind of lifestyle ‘on offer’? How is it offered?) - The lifestyle offered is one that is healthy and supposed to improve your body physically and it is offered by buying your own tools to workout, or doing exercises like biking

  • Representation (how are people and places constructed and presented through these technical elements?) - The person shown is constructed to seem lean, ready to workout, and pretty healthy - She is presented as what you might look like after trying out the workouts

  • Mode of address( how is a particular audience being addressed by these elements? How is a potential reader encouraged to see her/himself as the addressee?) - They are being addressed by seeing a lean woman on the cover, then seeing that them too have the option to lose weight - A potential reader can be encouraged by by all the enticing words like "Sexiest curves", "Increase your IQ", and "Burn more calories"

  • Rhetoric (what is the potential reader being persuaded to buy/accept? How?) - A potential reader is being persuaded to accept they can find out how to lose weight by reading, appear more attractive after losing weight, and that exercising can benefit other aspects like a person's IQ or a person's metabolism.
